2007

The PeaceBus was successful in it's the first mission of the 2007 Campaign to stop Cyanide Leech Mining in Australia and Lake Cowal as a matter of priority. Dangerous enough to transport poison for short term monetary gain, unbelievably dangerous and short sighted to siphon the water reserves of Australia, especially in the middle of a drought.

Action Debrief; It stopped, the train stopped, stopped dead in its tracks and blew its horn, not just one time, but 7 times, one for each letter in the word CYANIDE in response to Graeme Dunstans question over the loud speakers on the peacebus.com "WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING?". In fact the track side scene was probably very much like the last time an Australian tried to stop a train, (Google Ned Kelly for details on the first time) this time, like that time, the police were in plentiful supply, but this time, unlike last time, the police had no need of their guns, no arrests were made and we left the scene utterly convinced that the train drivers, at least, are on our side.

It was a great feeling to be trackside on this first blockade at the control panel of the peacebus web cameras, knowing that there were so many cyber citizens following the campaign made us all the more determined to ensure that our point was made, on radio, in print and on television as well as live to peacebus.net..

BAN CYANIDE LEECH MINING

Trackside it was a whole other ball game, or so it seemed to me. I expected the POLICE to be wearing more protective clothing than they were, according to their orders, the POLICE deployed to the level crossing were there for OUR safety and to prevent actions by peacebus crew in breech of the terrorist laws! Yet they were totally unprotected and unprepared for a Cyanide spill.by a real terrorist. My heart went out to the POLICE, they were as vulnerable as we were and in my mind, the POLICE did an excellent job.  No one in Kyogle was in any doubt that dangerous goods were traveling across that level crossing that night.

We expect to have video and lots of still pictures in here shortly and they will speak for themselves, for now, I just want to say to all the eco-activists who were there trackside and to those who have been following this campaign (and watching the webshow) heart felt thanks for your help and all of your support... till next ..... peace

PEACEBUS MOVIES

PeaceBus.net Repair Blog:

Michael Balderstone came to the rescue when he donated the 5 speed gearbox out of the old Nimbin Museum Van, he also gave us the linkages and cable we needed. The old museum van was up on blocks in the middle of a paddock, so the best way to remove the gearbox was to chop thru the floor with a logsplitter, a combination axe and sledge hammer. Anyway, she bolted up to the bell housing nicely and after road testing, 4 years or so of sitting in the bush DID NOT hurt it at all!

We had to weld up a new rear gearbox mounting and we also shortened the old tailshaft. So that's where we are up to "in reality", back on the road with an extra gear which means peacebus is more economical than before. Huge thanks to the Nimbin Environment Centre for their cash contribution, which, labour aside, was exactly as much as we needed for the welding and shortening. Thanks be unto Jab for the use of the peace-benz, with out which JP would probably still be hitchhiking around the rainbow region looking for parts, thanks also to the H*E*M*P*Bar for their hospitality and web connection time. Thanks also to the good citizens of the free republic of &%#@#% who allowed peacebus some "outdoor workspace" in the tranquility of the their rainforest regeneration project for the month or so the peacebus was up on blocks.

Of course, the funniest / ironical part of the whole gearbox replacing exercise has been that the first mission for new 5sped gearbox is as support crew for the Cyanide Walk, a mission that requires lots of 1st and 2nd Gear work, a mission that would suited the "old" gearbox perfectly because we replaced the "old" gearbox because it had no 4th gear. LOL

Peacebus.net's onboard computers have been upgraded along with 3 web cameras and Satellite communications have now been established, this enables wireless roadside connection to the web. This means that constant interior and exterior audiovisual monitoring, including local mobile wireless direct monitoring of the peacebus and its immediate surrounds, is now  possible.

Inspirational Readings and Good Vibrations

The Nomadic life of the political activist involves continually updating information from a wide range of sources including books, journals, scientific publications, the web, and from other non-print media. I have an interest in a wide range of social justice issues pertaining to the establishment and preservation of peaceful earthbound communities. I travel light and keep things to a minimum letting information flow rather than storing too much. Of course I also "slide the center line on this page" and read as much eco news as my good friend the eco.newsbot.dtdns.net can find me.

Some good vibrations that have inspired and soothed are;
