Pre-Peacebus.net in Northern Tasmania in 2003

After 5 years on the road supporting peacebus.com and other social activists, I, John Justin Peace, am now driving my own peacebus and reporting my experiences on this peacebus.net web site. Campaigns involving a wide range of social and environmental justice issues are undertaken with the involvement of diverse groups of mutually concerned people.

Tasmania is where I took charge of my peacebus vehicle.  On the 16th of November 2003 a white 22 year old 9 seater diesel mini bus was signed over to my care.   Its previous life had been spent as a mechanics retrieval and race car support vehicle.

From these beginnings, it started its slow transformation into a carrier for peace.

I have lived in the vehicle since then and it has taken me on my Nomadic journeys throughout Tasmania and along the Eastern seaboard, hinterlands, and Central Western districts of Australia.

I spent 7 months in Tasmania and visited threatened wilderness areas. I became a member of the Huon Valley Environment Centre during this time, and the defence of the Styx valley became a majour focus for me for some time. It was to this place, and later, to the Tarkine, that my bus took me.

The destruction of the Tasmanian forests that I had witnessed on my journeys was so disturbing to me, that it deepened my commitment to work for their protection. It started me on my slow development of a peacebus from the ground up.

So, what is now peacebus.net and its dedication to peace, through justice for the Earth, began because of  my response to the destruction of the Tasmanian Wilderness.

Major inspiration for the form of peacebus.net comes from my experiences aboard peacebus.com since the Drug War Freedom Ride of 2000. The crew of peacebus.com continue to encourage and assist me in setting up peacebus.net  I thank them, and also other friends of peacebus, for their dedicated commitment and support, for the continued development of the peacebus in its .net incarnation..

"Let our words and our actions cause the enemies of justice and freedom to show their faces" (Graeme Dunstan, 2000 Drug War Freedom Ride, Glen Innes 2000.)

I carry out all the ongoing maintenance, repairs and improvements to the peacebus and have fitted it out as a mobile office.  It has 240 and 12 volt power, alternative solar energy battery system, roof stage/broadcast area, kitchen, bed and storage areas for protest and demonstration equipment. My current bus improvement projects involve preparing it to run on biodiesel and updating the onboard computer system.
